First Full Day in Switzerland

First impressions of Zurich are favorable. It is a small city by US standards, but there is still a lot going on. Surprisingly a lot of the buildings are under 100 years old which seems odd considering how old the city itself is. Any place where the major food ingredients are starch, pork, cheese, cream, and beer (sometimes all in one dish) has my vote.

Today we walked around the old and new parts of Zurich. We saw several churches, climbed the obligatory bell tower, peered at the lake through the fog, and tried to walk enough to keep warm. Museum stops included the watch and clock museum, trolley museum, and the toy museum. All were fairly small and hidden in other businesses except the trolley museum which was a quick tram ride across town. Very cute overall.

It got up to maybe 2C or 3C today with an icy wind that thankfully only came out once in a while. The curator at the toy museum said this is unusually cold for Zurich. It is good training for our next stop, Murren, where highs are forecasted somewhere around -12C. After a certain point it does not matter what the thermometer says, it is just plain cold.

A little sleep in tomorrow and then we'll catch the train to Murren. Should be about three hours assuming we catch all of our connections. Train travel is so much nicer than flying.

Fun of Getting Lost Goes Frozen

We will be taking off for three weeks in Switzerland on Monday. I'll try to post some routes and tidbits while we are there. We will find out just how much you can do on a smartphone.

Resolution Run 5K

Just completed the annual Resolution Run and Polar Bear dip. Air temperature was 28 degrees and the water temp was 41 degrees. While it may have felt warm jumping in, no one looked all that happy getting back out again. No thank you, I'll take the dry option.

Market Street Scramble and Jingle Bell Run

This weekend was full of activities, but seeing as how I started off sick on Friday, I did not do all that well. I am definitely going to bed early tonight.

Saturday Tim and I did the Market Street Scramble which was the last in the series this year. We'll have to wait on the final results because by our tally, we should have placed, but maybe the rain washed off some of our answers. I did hear at least one other team questioning the results so we'll see what the final tally reveals. It was only a 2 hour course this time, but we still managed to cover 7 miles.

Ever get that squishy feeling when you have a really bad bruise? Well, I re-injured my foot during the street scramble so that is how the outside of my right foot feels right now. Add that to a knee that won't bend and I barely finished the Jingle Bell run (more of a limping walk for me). It looked like a really fast course so I was bummed. Next year, I'll wish for dry skies and healthy legs.

Time to rest up and get back into yoga so I'm healthy for the Resolution Run on New Year's Day.

Seattle Half Marathon

Oi, it was cold, but at least the rain held off. I wanted to come in under 3 hours and managed to make it in at 2:47:44 so I'm happy. Tim found me about halfway through and cheered me on then met me at the finish. Now a little nap and then I need to finish packing for NYC.

Mud & Chocolate Half Marathon

That was nuts! Who's crazy idea was it to run a half marathon? A trail run at that! Oh yeah, that was me. My phone does not have enough battery to run my XM and my Runkeeper app for three hours so I was only able to capture the first 10 miles of my run. The total miles ran was 13.1'ish and I came in around 2:50. I wanted to finish within 3 hours so I'm happy. Actually, I'm just happy to have finished, full stop!

I'm up before the crack of dawn tomorrow to catch a plane to NYC for work so I think a nap is in order. Seattle Half Marathon is in three weeks.

The elapsed time got a little wonky when my battery died, but the route is accurate.
